History

Mallia Engineering Company (MEC) was founded by the current president Maurice Mallia. Since its inception in 1989, Mallia Engineering Company has been providing quality structural engineering services for the commercial, industrial, civic, and residential building sectors.

The company has served a wide variety of clients including architects, manufacturing contractors, insurance companies, and commercial property developers, as well as individuals. With professional engineers licensed in 18 states, Mallia Engineering Company is well positioned to handle project needs, both locally and nationally.

The firm's expertise is highlighted in the areas of building design for commercial and industrial needs. Within the commercial sectors, Mallia Engineering Company has successfully designed a variety of building types for the medical, retail, food, hotel/motel and entertainment industries. Building material types include timber, concrete, masonry, structural steel, and light gauge steel construction.

Recently completed industrial projects include underground mines, warehouses, elevated equipment platforms, and process facilities. In the civic area, we have performed the design for both new and renovated structures including churches, police/fire stations, and schools. Building material types include tilt-up concrete panels, reinforced concrete and medium-to-heavy weight structural steel.

Mallia Engineering Company has been a leader in the area of forensic structural engineering. The company performs visual inspections and detailed assessment reports for over 100 structures yearly. A key component of this business sector is the performance of root cause and corrective action reviews for insurance company property damage claims. These structural assessment projects span across a diverse range of buildings from industrial plants to single-family residences, and include potential blasting damage evaluations.

About the President

Maurice Mallia has practiced structural engineering in the East Tennessee area for over 20 years. Mr. Mallia attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and received a Master's degree in Structural Engineering in 1980. Prior to that, Mr. Mallia received a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1976 and a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture in 1978.

Mr. Mallia was employed at Lockwood-Greene and was a principal with Denark-Smith Engineers and Contractors prior to establishing Mallia Engineering Company. Mr. Mallia is a licensed PE in 18 states including Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina. Additionally, Mr. Mallia is an active member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the Construction Specification Institute (CSI), the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the American Plywood Association (APA), the Masonry Institute of Tennessee, and the Southern Building Code Congress.
